A Few More Swatches of Revlon Colorburst Lippies

I didn't have much to do during my break earlier so I decided to go inside the department store and swatch a few Revlon Colorburst lippies so I can also decide which shade I should get next. I wasn't able to swatch everything but only those that caught my eye.

L-R: True Red, Carnation, Raspberry, Soft Nude, Peach, Blush, and Rosy Nude

Please ignore the lost Maybelline Color Sensation swatch on top. I think is B42 or B24. Not sure.

This is what I think of the shades and how I imagine they'd look like on me based on the swatches alone.

True Red - I'll probably get scared of myself. Or it's just that I'm not used to wearing bold colors.
Carnation - Although it is a really pretty shade of pink, it just makes me look like a Barbie wannabe.
Raspberry - Berry-licious but too bright and bold for my liking.
Soft Nude - Nude as nude can be. I might end up looking washed out or anemic.
Peach - A very lovely peach colour! I know it is a mortal sin to try testers on your lippies but I couldn't help it. Though I had to wipe the tip of the lippy with a wet tissue for like 5-7 times. Good thing the sales assistant wasn't there. :P It made me look younger and brightened up my face. :P
Blush - A little too pale for me. I don't like the sort of frost in it.
Rosy Nude - A little close to Soft Rose sans the brown tones.

I'll get Peach next week! :P

Product Review: Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Soft Rose

I am not a huge fan of lipsticks as most of them tend to be drying and I hate how my lips flake when they get dry. That is exactly the reason why I love tinted lip balms. They are moisturizing and adds a hint of color on the lips. If I will wear a lipstick, I need to make sure it is moisturizing so as to keep my lips from getting dry. After reading a lot of raves about the Colorburst line from Revlon, I decided to buy just one shade first when this became locally available, and that is Soft Rose, which is said to be a dupe of Chanel Rogue Coco Mademoiselle. Let's see how I feel about this product but first, here are a couple of pictures.

I like the quilted design of the tube. Looks kinda classic to me. :)

The word Revlon embossed on the lipstick itself. So Chanel-ish.

A very pretty medium rose shade that is definitely MLBB.

What I like:
- Creamy and applies smoothly on the lips.
- Color is buildable. You can start from something sheer to something richer and deeper.
- Moisturizing. Of course, I apply lip balm first to condition my lips. I never skip that. (This may not be super accurate as I do not apply lipsticks without any lip balm at all.)
- Pigmented.
- Staying power is kinda okay. I still see some color left on my lips even after eating, drinking, and smoking.
- Gives a glossy finish but not over the top.
- No shimmers or glitters.
- Scent is okay, I can barely smell anything, given that I have an annoyingly sensitive nose.
- Locally available at Revlon counters nationwide.

What I don't like:
- A little expensive at PHP575 per tube for a drugstore lipstick.

Overall rating: 4.5/5

Will I buy again? Yes! I'm eye-ing Rosy Nude next. :)

By the way, here's a swatch on my lips. It looks like NARS Dolce Vita.

Hope you're all having a great week so far. :)

Product Review: Revlon Colorstay Mineral Mousse 030 Light

I have been a powder foundation user for years and I try foundations in non-powder form every once in a while. The latest one I've tried is Revlon Colorstay Mineral Mousse in 010 Light shade. I've used it only for a few times and it's now with its new owner. To know why it's no longer with me, read the review.

I had really high hopes for this foundation as I was impressed when i initially tried it at a Revlon counter. I liked how smooth my skin looks and the dewy look it gave me. I felt a little itch on my nose and cheeks but I just shrugged it off because I thought that it might just be an insect bite. So I went ahead and bought this foundation. I used it on and off for a few days. I really liked how it sort of stayed put on my skin given how oily my T-Zone is. I really liked the finish when I topped it off with my In2It Oil Control Powder Foundation. But then I realized that every time I use it, I end up having red marks on my face. Then wake up the following morning with something that looks like a zit but not totally a zit. Just red spots and patches on my face. What made me decide to finally stop using it is when I really had small zit on my nose as well as on my cheek. Too bad because I really liked it.

What I like:
- Applies really smoothly on the skin.
- Scent doesn't stink.
- Feels really light on the face, it does not make you feel as if you're wearing a mask when you have it on.
- Buildable. Has light-medium coverage but it is buildable depending on how you like it.
- Can cover minor blemishes.
- A little goes a long way.
- Gives a matte finish.
- Sort of makes pores less visible.
- Lasts for a good 3-4 hours on my oily skin but once my T-Zone starts to oil up, I get a rather dewy look than a slicky oil mine of a face.
- Blends well with the skin.
- Read that it works best for those with oily skin.
- Locally available at all Revlon counters nationwide.

What I don't like:
- I might be allergic to something in it as I got red patches and spots every time I use it and even gave me a zit.
- Kinda expensive for a drugstore makeup though I scored mine on eBay for only PHP290 + shipping.

Overall rating: 3/5 (This is somewhat a subjective review due to my experience but for those who do not have sensitive skin, this might work for you)

Will I buy again? No. I'll just stick to Japanese-branded powder foundies.

Tip: To avoid streaks, better to go back to the basics in application. Use your trusty ol' fingers to make it more even. :P Using your fingers also sort of warms up the foundation too.

At the back of my hand.

Blended.

Happy weekend! :P

Product Review: Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Liner 01 Black

I am really excited to do a review on the gel liners I have recently purchased. I'll first do a review on Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner in 01 Black. Even though I've had it only for 3-4 days, I think I have tested it enough to give it a review.

This is what I considered as the ultimate test. I was able to test it on the very same day that I purchased it. I wore it at around 5 or 6pm. I was out drinking with colleagues at Gilligan's until 12 and actually dropped by a friend's house and drank until 4am. There was minor smudging but not as bad as it would have been if I wore a pencil liner. Or it would've been gone by then considering how hot it was that night plus the fact that I have oily lids to begin with. I even had to use an eye makeup remover when I got home. It withstood my oily lids and I'm really pleased as to how it performed and delivered. I haven't really tested the 24h claim as it might be too much for my eyes but so far, I've no complaints aside from the packaging.

I once again tested it, this time at the back of my hands and rubbed the swatch with my thumb several times. Scroll down to see the results.

Just dried at the back of my hand.

Rubbed once.

Twice.

Thrice.

Four times.

Spritzed alcohol on it and rubbed it with my thumb more than twice.

Spritzed alcohol again and rubbed it with a cloth. Now it's completely gone.

But if you notice how red my skin looks on the picture, you'll see how hard I rubbed it in order to remove the liner. That's how hard it is to rub off and that's the staying power of the liner. I had to put in a lot of effort in removing it and ended up hurting myself a bit. So on to the review.

What I like:
- Very creamy.
- Applies smoothly and glides on the lids without any tugging at all.
- Comes with a brush that is actually pretty good.
- Lasts for hours without smudging or having any traces of it transfer on my lower lash line or undereyes.
- Does not easily smudge but can be easily removed by soap and water.
- Did not irritate my eyes at all.
- Dries up in 60 seconds or so.
- Locally available at Maybelline counters in department stores and Watson's stores nationwide.
- Price is reasonable given the quality. Got this on sale at PHP360, SRP is PHP450.

What I don't like:
- They can do a little better on the packaging. I mean for PHP450, I think it can look a little nicer instead of having a cap made of tin. Looks pretty cheap.
- I had to apply it twice to achieve the black I want.

Overall rating: 4.5/5
Will I buy again? Yes!

On my eyes.

Have a wonderful week, everyone! :)

Product Review: Marionnaud N32 Slanted Blusher Brush

Can I just say "Eureka!!!" first?! It was love at first... uh, touch? with this blush brush. I saw this yesterday at Watson's Market Market while checking out some of the items they have on sale. I wasn't sure if customers are allowed to open the case as there is some sort of a lock but naughty me managed to discreetly open one so I can brush it at the back of my hand. See, we can't just buy brushes without first feeling the bristles as they may be scratchy and hurt the skin, right? What got me even more excited is the price. It's on sale for only PHP153! I forgot the original price but it's not more than PHP200. Here are some pictures.

It comes in a resealable plastic pouch which can be used as a pencil case or a liner case or whatever purpose you think it might have. Let's re-use and recycle such things to help save the Earth. :P

A closer look at the bristles.

The logos.

Side by side with MAC 188.

What I like:
- The bristles are made of synthetic fibers, thus, making it super soft.
- Bristles aren't scratchy.
- Angle is just right for contouring.
- Dense.
- Looks posh and not cheap, given the cheap price tag. See side by side pic with MAC. They kinda look the same.
- Did not shed after 2 washes. Bled a little but at least I got rid of the dye.
- Not made of animal hair.
- Cheap. Sale price is PHP153, original price is not more than PHP200.
- Has a reusable zip pouch.
- Locally available at some Watson's branches and Marionnaud.

What I don't like:
- NADA!

Overall rating: 5/5
Will I buy again? Yes! I hope there will still be stocks of this brush next week even if it's no longer on sale. Planning to buy one for blushes and use this one for bronzers.

Was supposed to review this next week but I'm really excited to share with you guys how nice this brush is so I decided to do it today. I've had this brush only for a day but that's how much I like this brush.

Happy Saturday! :P

Sale Items!

I read on Cake that there will be a nationwide sale for Maybelline products that are priced over PHP200 on SM at Watson's branches. Since I have long been lemming for the Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Liner, I decided to check it out at Watson's Market Market. Of course, I got myself the black one since the price went down from a little less then PHP450 to PHP360. Then I also saw some Marionnaud brushes and got the N32 Slanted Blusher Brush which was also on sale for only PHP153! I wanted to get more brushes but I figured I don't really need a lot since I have brushes that I do not get to use. I'm starting to control my urge to buy stuff I don't really need that much. Last Wednesday, I also got myself the In2It Waterproof Gel Liner. Anyway, here's a picture of the stuff I bought.

Will review each product soon. :P

Happy weekend, everyone! :)

Product Review: NARS Dolce Vita lipgloss

I'll cut to the chase and go straight to the review of my fave lipgloss - NARS Dolce Vita. Let me start off by showing some pictures.

Dolce Vita is an earthy pinkish-rosey-mauve that does not have any shimmer or sparkles,

thus, looking more natural on the lips.

What I like:
- Definitely MLBB (my-lips-but-better) for me and it is a shade I can wear everyday, be it when I go to work or on a gimmick.
- Moisturizes my lips and my lips doesn't end up flaking, unlike with MAC lipglasses.
- Not super sticky which is just the way I like it. I don't feel comfortable when the lipgloss I'm wearing is as sticky as MAC lipglasses.
- Staying power is pretty decent. I can still see a little color on my lips even after eating or drinking and sort of leaves a very thin layer of moisture that doesn't dry out my lips.
- Locally available.

What I don't like:
- Quite expensive for a lipgloss for PHP1350 at Rustan's.

Overall rating: 4.5/5
Will I buy again? Maybe. I am a sucker for tinted lip balms.

On my lips

Anyway, to all the mums out there...

Ta! :)
