Product Review: By Nature Handmade Soaps: Dairy Bar and Citrus White

I decided to join the By Nature Handmade Soaps craze and got 2 bars for testing. Well, I was able to try two By Nature soaps way back in 2007 when it wasn't a big hit yet. I tried the goat's milk and tea tree soaps which I never got to use up anyway as I didn't see anything grand about those soaps. So now I once again decided to give it a try and got the Dairy Bar and the Citrus White soaps.

I was really excited to try the Dairy Bar as I assumed it smelt of milk because of its name. With this soap, I have to admit that it was a major disappointment for me. First, it didn't smell anything like dairy or milk. It was just a strong scent that really triggers my allergic rhinitis. The scent was really annoying and sort of stung. The first time I used it to bathe, I seriously had migraine after the shower. I hated the scent so bad that I immediately grabbed my Honey I Washed the Kids soap from Lush to somewhat take over the irritating scent. I decided to ditch this bar. Maybe they shouldn't have named it "Dairy Bar" as it smells nothing like milk or any dairy product.

As for the Citrus Bar, the scent is still tolerable for me. I like that it has some sort of scrubs or grains in it that can somewhat help exfoliate my skin. I like how this soap lathers and melts like butter on my skin. I can definitely see that my skin has lightened up a bit but it's not as quick as Cyleina's Black Pearl Soap. I was kinda looking for a more citrus-y scent but it's nothing like that. It was kind of moisturizing but not moisturizing enough for me. I'll just use up this bar and stick to the soaps that work for me.

Overall, these soaps disappointed me big time. I was expecting more from a soap that costs PHP125 per 100g bar but there's nothing really special about it. The scents were major disappointments. For the price of these two soaps combined, I would've gotten like 4 bars of Cyleina soaps or perhaps another 100g bar of Lush Honey I Washed the Kids Soap. I bought these soaps due to the raves but rather found them utterly disappointing.

Will I buy again? NO. I wasted my money on these soaps.

  1. Thank you for an honest review! At last. I haven't bought anything from By Nature, I've always been wary of mega-praises in GT. Like Cyleina - the keeper for me there is just the Black Pearl Soap and not anything else. (My sis loves Rice Bran though). I don't understand why people worship all the soaps like they're made of gold or something.

I like super scented soaps and my fave is Lush's Karma. I am still looking forward to try By Nature's Utter Bliss or Sampaguita. I hope they won't disappoint me because they're not exactly cheap :)

  2. i hate hate hate scented soaps!
that's 1 of the reason why i didn't buy any from Lush even if i think that the Honey i washed the kids smells good. I hate that it clashes to my perfume.

first thing that i do when buying soaps is smelling it first if it smells awful/too good then its off my list.. & this one is definitely OFF of my lists

    thanks for the review,sis

  3. Hi Trace. Thanks for following my blog. I gotta admit that the raves on GT is what made me purchase these soaps. But then again, I was disappointed. To each his own is the rule of vanity, I guess. :P

  4. Thiamere, like you, scented soaps turn me off. Well, at least the heavy scented ones. I still hope you get to try Honey I Washed the Kids. Still gentle on the nose. :P

  6. Oh no. Regarding the lippy, I'll still get it. But not the highlighter. I was actually waiting for the details. I'm ready to pay na through Gcash. Just tell me to what number. Btw, is it still available?

    Sorry for the misunderstanding. :(

  7. Hi Mia. I didn't know how to contact you and was waiting for an email from you, actually. :P

The thing is when my mom saw me arranging my make up, she saw that lippy and told me that she wants it. Couldn't say no to her. Sorry, dear. :(
