To have brighter, clearer, and healthier skin that is more radiant and glowing, exfoliation is something we should definitely not skip in our beauty regimen. It is recommended that we exfoliate at least twice a week so we can get rid of dead skin cells and deep seated dirt that makes our skin look dull and unhealthy. Before I crossed paths with Origins Modern Friction, there was Queen Helene Mint Julep Natural Facial Scrub and I guess it's about time I give it a review.

Product Description taken from Queen Helene website:
A refreshing natural-fiber facial scrub that deep cleans your skin and leaves a pleasant, tingling glow. The gentle exfoliating action draws out impurities, unclogs pores and removes dead, dry cells from the surface of your skin. Emollients help replenish lost moisture, effectively protecting your skin from the harsh elements. Use once a week, or more often if your skin is oily, for skin that looks fresh and healthy and feels refreshingly soft and smooth. This scrub works great in the shower too.
Deep Cleans, Unplugs Pores and Exfoliates the Dull Surface Layers of Skin
Ingredients:
Water, Walnut (Juglans Regia) Powder (Juglans Regia), Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate, Stearyl Alcohol, Glycerin Kaolin, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Isopropyl Myristate, Dimethicone, Triethanolamine, Fragrance, Carbomer, Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Phenoxyethanol
How the scrub looks |
What I like:
- The scrubs are fine, gentle, and non-abrasive and won't tear up the skin leaving it raw. I like the feel of it.
- Smells nice and not overwhelming.
- My skin feels smooth and soft after exfoliating with this scrub.
- Does not break me out.
- I am really surprised that it did not cause any allergic reaction since it has walnut powder and I am allergic to nuts - quite a miracle for me as nuts can be fatal.
- No animal testing.
- It really does exfoliate and remove deep seated dirt on the pores.
- A little goes a long way. I don't need much to exfoliate my face and neck.
- Inexpensive for a big tube (more or less than Php 400) and locally available at Healthy Options.
What I don't like:
- I was initially amazed as to how my skin feels soooo smooth and soft after using this but then it has dimethicone which is a type of silicone. And what does silicone do as a primer? Do the math, dearies. It could be the dimethicone sitting right on top of my skin that causes it to feel smooth.
- It has Methylparaben and Propylparaben, baby! If you're not fond of paraben, stay away from this.
Overall rating: 4/5
Will I buy again? Yes. Only when I'm done with my Origins scrub which isn't locally available.
Have you tried this product?
Happy Monday, everyone!
Cheers,
Interesting product! I love that it's gentle for a scrub that does the job. I've been hearing good things about Queen Helene products and I'm glad to know that Healthy Options carries them. =))
ReplyDeletestaring at the picture, it looks creamy - does it feel that way? compared to St. Ives - which i previously use - it looks a lot softer in texture 'cause the latter is grainy and less watery/creamy.
ReplyDeletei used to love facial exfoliators (St. Ives) but i've noticed that it sometimes causes breakout even if i reduce to usage frequency. i suppose this needs to be rinsed by water, right? am currently using an exfoliating and hydrating cream-gel by Avene and it seems to be working. Not sure how different or similar are the functionality/purpose with the usual facial scrubs?
This is a classic! I used to use this when I had combo skin!
ReplyDeletei'm scared of scrubs right now because my face is peeling. :'( errm i'm not an expert on product ingredients but should scrubs contain paraben and silicone? :/
ReplyDeletefab review :) i have not tried yet any julep thinggies i cnt find it locally and also paraben is kinda scaring me hehe but someone told me it contains a very low paraben amount or a safe amount, according to her parabens in products r not harmful hmmmm

OH i heard about this mask...... but haven't seen it in Australia........... might order it online. ^^
ReplyDeleteI have only tried the Mint Julep Mask. And I use the St. Ives apricot scrub facial wash... Hm, I should check my St. Ives if it has paraben or all those bad chemicals. Huhu, daming bad sa face. hehe! :D
ReplyDeletexoxo,

I've only heard great things about this and the masque! The texture looks great and yey for no animal testing!
ReplyDeleteseems like a good product from your review, I just ran out of masks so hmmmmmm
ReplyDelete@Jackie Maybe you should give it a try one of these days! :D
ReplyDelete@MereMakeupManiac It's actually not that creamy but it is definitely way softer that St. Ives. I broke out with the latter and found it too harsh and not as gentle as this one. The beads of QH is rounder and finer too. :)
ReplyDeleteDoes the Avene one create residues resembling "libag"?
@Jamilla Camel Great for combo and oily skin! :) Seems like we've used similar skin care products with Cetaphil and then this QH scrub. :)
ReplyDelete@sugar sugar Don't use anything on your face, it's right to be scared of scrubs at the moment. Interesting, will research on that. :P
ReplyDelete@aMz88 Queen Helene products are available at Healthy Options. Since you're from Rizal (if I remember correctly), there are branches in Megamall and EDSA Shang, I think those are the nearest to you. :) I do agree with that paraben thing so I still use prods with 'em. I don't think these products would be FDA approved if the amount found in them are harmful.
ReplyDelete@purple snowflake A lof of people like the mask but sadly, I broke out with that product. This scrub, however, did not break me out and is wonderful. :)
ReplyDelete@Myrted Haha! I agree. But sometimes, the all-natural ones cause allergic reaction on some. :P
ReplyDelete@G A B Y This is one of the gentlest scrubs I have tried ever and yes, yey or no animal testing! :)
ReplyDelete@Pop Champagne Oh no, Julie, this is the scrub. The masque won't receive good reviews from me. :P
ReplyDeleteI love this scrub! For some reason, this makes me feel relaxed after use, Probably the mint.
ReplyDeleteHuwaaaatttt!!!! They have facial scrub pala... I wanna grab one!!!! Thanks pammy.
ReplyDeleteMan where the hell have I been? I didn't know they had scrubs too. I used the infamous mask and loved it, I wanna try this one!
ReplyDeleteyay! thanks for showing how it looks.. i was intrigued how it looks like. never tried coz i'm scared haha..
ReplyDeleteYup, I saw this in Healthy Options-SM MOA. I'm not the type to read the ingredients thoroughly when it comes to beauty products, but I thought since Healthy Options sells it, it might be paraben free, not that I can steer clear of it totally. :3
ReplyDeleteI just got this today and tried it when I got home. I have combination normal/oily skin. I instantly loved this mask! No stinging or burning sensation on my first try as to what others felt when they tried it. my skin feels soft, smooth and my pores are less visible unlike before. Hope to do a review on this soon!
